Mubarak Al Rumaidhi clinched the 2012 Red Bull Car Park Drift title in Kuwait. The event, sponsored by Chevrolet and held under the supervision of The Kuwait 1/4 Mile Club, proved to be both action packed and entertaining as more than 8,000 spectators enjoyed the best ever drifting performances in Kuwait.

Al Rumaidhi, driving his Nissan 350 Z, earned his victory by beating out Sami Haidar who was driving the same car and Dhari Al Shammary in his Nissan Altima V6 to ensure his place in the regional final in Lebanon on July 6.

There was not only an amazing fight for the title, the driving was fierce and the crowd was packed and loud. The 8,000 spectators were so loud that it was similar to a football game. The Red Bull Car Park Drift started at 6:00pm when Middle East Hill Climb Champion Abdo Feghali performed a drifting show. The official start of the event came when Sheikh Azbi Al Nayef Al Sabah, Head of the organizing committee of the Rally at the Kuwait 1/4 Mile Club, lifted the chequered flag to signal the start of the first round which saw 19 drifters compete for the best 10 spots.

Sami Haidar managed to qualify first to the top 10 slightly edging Mubarak Al Rumaidhi, but it was Al Rumaidhi who powered to the top of the podium in the decisive stage after putting a flawless performance.

“It’s such an amazing feeling. The track course was very challenging and the competition was fierce. I’m so happy that my hard work paid off. I’m going to train harder and further upgrade my car, so watch out, Lebanon here I come.” said Mubarak Al Rumaidhi, first place winner.

A panel of esteemed judges consisting of Abdo Feghali, Middle East Hill Climb Champion, Pascal Hayek, Motorsport Specialist and Ghassan Jasser, Motorsport Journalist evaluated the drifters based on their drifting skills, external look of the car, the smoke produced by the friction of the tyres and the engine roars and finally the audience’s excitement and cheers for each performance to make their final decision.

Feghali who offered an once-in-a-lifetime drifting ride experience to three spectators said: “This is our third year here in Kuwait and it was another successful event with an increase in the number of drifters and attendance. We are excited to see the growth of drifting in Kuwait.”

From the heat, to the smoke, to the crowd, and the roaring engines, this was truly one of the most intense events to date. The next stop of the 2012 Red Bull Car Park Drift will take place in Abu Dhabi, the capital city of UAE on February 17 while the regional final will take place in Lebanon on July 6.
