Gilmar Pereira Flores finished on the top spot in Friday’s National Qualifying round in Brazil’s capital Brasilia and will join the best FMX-Athletes on the planet in the Main Event on Saturday.

What does the chance to represent your country in Red Bull X- Fighters mean to you?
Unfortunately, the sport is still small here in Brazil and we don’t have many championships to take part in. So, the opportunity to represent my country in Red Bull X-Fighters is fantastic, it’s the most-wanted competition for all FMX riders. I’m working really hard to make a good and competitive ride, to be in the main event, as I was in Rio de Janeiro in 2008.
What’s the weirdest place you’ve ridden so far?
Once I went to Colombia: the place was dark, the ramp was small, everything was weird. I had a lot of difficulties in that night.
What your favourite trick?
My favourite is the Ruler-Flip. I’m getting better in this trick, making it with a good extension and it’s getting more beautiful. I’m enjoying it a lot.
Are you working on anything new for Red Bull X-Fighters?
I’m improving my ride, I want to put some tricks that I’m already doing, like the Cordova Flip, Shaolin Flip and the Ruler Flip. I’m practicing a new trick, the Superman Seatgrab Flip, and, if I get confident, I’ll try to put it in my run.
How will you handle the pressure?
My goal is to qualify to the main event, and, as I have past experiences in Red Bull X-Fighters, it may help me. I’m focused and hope to get there well prepared.
